Volcan De Mi Tierra Blanco Tequila is produced by Master Distiller Anna Maria Romero Mena who uses a blend of Los Altos (Highland) and Tequila Valley (Lowlands) agave for the tequila. Meaning "Land of the Volcano", this tequila is a joint venture between Moët Hennessey and the Gallardo family.
Volcán De Mi Tierra pays homage to and is named after a real volcano that sits in the lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico: El Volcán de Tequila. 200,000 years ago. The Tequila volcano erupted and shaped the entire region. Its eruption covered the area in rich volcanic soil, making the area ideal for the growth of blue agave.
Made from 100% Blue Weber Agave, Volcán X.A is a unique blend of Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo tequilas. The 3 layers of aging unveil a very smooth tequila profile. The reposado base brings the right level of sweetness and smoothness, while anejo and extra-anejo add aromatic elegance and complexity. A subtle recipe kept secret by Volcán's master distiller.Volcán X.A reveals a perfect balance of cooked agave, hints of spices and sweet aromas such as notes of vanilla, caramel and dried fruits. To be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
The shape is inverted and tall which is the extension of the Tequila volcano's shape. The neck is inspired by modern Mexican pottery, a celebration of Volcán's origins. The stopper is a metaphorical descent to the heart of the volcano. The ridges and gold detailing represent the rays of the Volcán de Mi Tierra logo.
The distillery for Volcan De Mi Tierra sits in the lowlands at the foot of a volcano appropriately named Tequila, which erupted 200,000 years ago but continues to fertilize the land for prime agriculture. Here, blue agave is grown and used to produce the Blanco and Cristalino, thanks to the expertise of Anna María Romero Mena, the mastermind behind this new Moët Hennessy label. Romero Mena experimented with yeast variations, agave selections, and multiple cask maturations to hit the final tones for the 100-percent blue agave Volcan De Mi Tierra, pulling from the rich soil and history of this volcanic land.

Volcano De Mi Tierra Cristalino is a blend between old and extra-aged and is filtered before being aged in barrels. It is a true expression of the Terroir de Valles, revealing the richness and elegance of this land. This tequila not only has the depth, richness and complexity of a vintage, it is an authentic innovation that highlights the savoir-faire of Moët Hennessy, where the meeting of both old and extra-aged gives the softness and delicacy to tequila. The Crystalline is enjoyed alone or on ice.
Using only Tequila Valley (Lowlands) agave, the production was overseen by master distiller Anna María Romero Mena. The tequila is made from a blend of añejo tequila which ages in former whisky casks and extra añejo tequila which was aged in former cognac barrels. After aging, the liquid remains separated while the color is removed. Before blending, the añejo and extra añejo tequilas are finished with a cask wash in the barrel they were aged in. Meaning "land of the volcano", this tequila is a joint venture between Moët Hennessy and the Gallardo family. Released May 2017 in select US markets.
Nose: A crystal clear pour betrays the fact that this tequila shows quite a bit of oak influence in a nose filled with notes of caramel candy, toasted vanilla bean, and a touch of spicy pepper-toned agave.

The complexity of the Volcan de mi Tierra tequila comes from blending the distinct flavors of the highlands and lowlands agave, bringing together the best of both regions into an extraordinary liquid. Like generations before us, we wait and we watch as the agave sweeten in the sun.
The epic explosion ultimately paved the way for the launch of Volcan De Mi Tierra, a new super-premium tequila brand from LVMH, the French luxury goods partnership, by creating the mineral-rich soil that surrounds the volcano.
It just happened to be ideal for growing two distinct types of Weber blue agave, the essential base of the very best tequila, and is the reason the company chose this spot in which to create its first original spirit since LVMH was founded 30 years ago.
The brand has initially launched two expressions, Blanco and Cristalino, bearing the Volcan De Mi Tierra label. Most consumers will be familiar with blanco, or silver, tequila, which owes its transparency to little or no aging. Cristalino is the result of a newer method in which the color is extracted from aged anejo spirit.
Tequila Volcano, or Volcán de Tequila is a stratovolcano located near Tequila, Jalisco, in Mexico. It stands at a height of 2,920 meters (9,580 feet) above sea level,[2]. Stratovolcanoes, also referred to as composite volcanoes, are the "iconically" conical-shaped volcanoes, found most commonly along subduction zones. Stratovolcanoes are composed of steeply dipping layers of lava, hardened ash, and other material that erupted from the main vent such as tephra and pumice.[3] Commonly higher than 2500 meters above sea-level, Stratovolcanoes have gentle lower slopes which gradually become steeper the higher you get with a relatively small summit crater. Due to their eruptions, Stratovolcanoes have several distinct variations giving some a specific feature such as calderas and amphitheaters.[4]
In recorded history, volcanoes in subduction zones are known to have the most explosive eruptions causing the most danger to the surrounding civilization. These eruptions will generally produce pyroclastic flows containing toxic gas and hot volcanic fragment traveling at high speeds. Stratovolcanoes can erupt any kind of magma type although the lava usually cools and hardens not letting it get very far.
Tequila Volcano is located near the town of Tequila in the state of Jalisco, Mexico and it is the fourth highest of the state after Volcán Nevado de Colima, Volcán de Fuego and Cerro Viejo.[5] The Tequila Volcano is part of a chain of volcanoes parallel with the Middle America Trench, is a 1,700 miles (2,700 km) oceanic trench in the eastern Pacific Ocean off the southwestern coast of Middle America, stretching from central Mexico and Costa Rica. At least four different magmatic series has been discovered around Tequila volcano: the Santa Rosa intraplate basalts; a group of vitreous domes and flows of dacitic to rhyolitic compositions, pyroxene andesites and dacites with strong subduction signatures; and amphibole bearing andesites that erupted through the flanks of the main cone.[6]
The volcano does not pose a threat to surrounding communities. Being inactive for around 220,000 years it is now covered in vegetation and is easy to access. Visitors can drive to the volcano's crater without any concerns for safety.[10]
The older distilleries with their long histories were fascinating, of course, but what was really enjoyable at Volcan was seeing a new distillery starting from scratch and coming up with its first tequila. You can read elsewhere about my visit to the Volcan de mi Tierra distillery.
In the tasting at the distillery we tried two lowland tequilas made using different methods, one highland tequila, and finally the Volcan de mi Tierra Blanco, which was a blend of highland and lowland tequilas. It was only on the 177th attempt at the blending that they were satisfied with the taste they had created.
Volcan de mi Tierra Blanco is made from 100% blue agave, unaged, and bottled at 40% ABV. The distiller has created a tequila with a nose that is fresh and aromatic, with scents of fruit like apple and even pineapple, I thought. This is balanced by a tang of saltiness and a peppery aroma.
200,000 years ago, when the Mexican Tequila volcano erupted, it gave the surrounding land a rare fertility, nourishing the terroir and the community. From the ashes, an incredible, almost mystical agave began to grow. Since then, men have been harvesting this plant to make an equally surprising nectar: tequila.
With its tequila, Volcan de Mi Tierra tells us a story, the story of the men and women of its region, the story of its soil, and delights us with this subtle alliance between innovation and tradition. 041b061a72
